The ocean crossing
Los Angeles to Kahului (OGG) is about 2,150 nautical miles of open water with no airport along the way. That’s past the range of light jets and many midsize jets, so nonstop trips usually start at a super-mid cabin. The aircraft also has to carry life rafts and life vests for the crossing.
Arriving with pets and plants
Everyone arriving from the mainland declares plants, animals, and other farm items and shows them to a state inspector. Pets take the most planning, and we’ll help you line it up. A dog or cat needs a rabies blood test that reaches the lab at least 30 days before arrival, plus state paperwork.
Kapalua and West Maui
Kapalua (JHM) is close to the West Maui resorts, but its 3,000-foot runway is closed to jets and open only to charter and airline operators with advance permission. From Kahului, the drive to Kaanapali takes about 50 minutes.
