The short runway
Key West International (EYW) has about 4,800 feet of runway for landing. We’ll run the numbers on fuel and bags for any aircraft you’re considering, because larger jets often have to leave with less of one or the other, which can mean a fuel stop on the way home.
Overnight and Sunday
The airport is closed to all flights from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., and its customs office doesn’t open on Sundays. Coming back from the Bahamas on a Sunday, you’d clear customs at Marathon (MTH), where the office is open Thursday through Monday.
Fantasy Fest and hurricane season
Winter is the busy season, and Fantasy Fest fills the island for 10 days in late October. For trips from June through November, keep the return flexible: that’s hurricane season.
